Overview of OnBoard Edge Service

info

Operations in OnBoard Edge Service are applicable only to local factories, while operations for cloud factories can be performed directly in OnBoard™ IoT Security (OBIS). Please contact Snowball for assistance with the deployment.

OnBoard Edge Service manages Production Batches at the factory level, enforces authorization constraints locally, and enables intranet-connected Programming Stations to perform production execution. It provides an intranet-accessible web portal through which factory managers can monitor production status and perform administrative operations. OnBoard Edge Service provides the following core capabilities:

Production Batch Management

It supports concurrent Production Batch operations from one or more OEMs. Factory managers monitor batch status, allocate batches to Programming Stations, and manage batch lifecycle through the web portal.

Programming Station Management

Factory managers can manage Programming Stations through the web portal, including:

  • Create and configure Programming Stations, including secure authentication method for connections to OnBoard Edge Service (Identity U-Safe, password, or no password)
  • Allocate batches to Programming Stations from OnBoard Edge Service (alternatively, operators can specify a Batch ID or Production Order ID directly from Programming Station Software)
  • Deliver the associated Programming Station Software package to Programming Stations

Production Device Record Management

OnBoard Edge Service generates per-device production records from Programming Stations and submits them to the OBIS cloud platform. It can also interoperate with existing factory systems—such as MES and factory testing systems—to exchange production records. OnBoard Edge Service does not have access to product key materials at any point. All cryptographic key material processing occurs exclusively within the EdgeHSM hardware boundary.
